Just like Fianna Fail, Fine Gael has its own group of Local Area Representatives – mainly unelected party members that act as representatives of the party in their local area with such areas usually coinciding with parts of the country in which the number of party elected representatives are relatively low. As opposed to Fianna Fail however (and even allowing for the errors on that party’s website), the Fine Gael party website does not contain a listing of these party Local Area Representatives so I have tried to find out information on these from other online sources. As the following table suggests, I have not been very successful in these endeavours!!!

As this table shows, to date I have only identified ten Fine Gael Local Area Representatives (I am of course excluding all local elected representatives here (City/County and Borough/Town Councillors), most of whom are based in the Dublin region and the majority of whom are female. (Thanks to Noel Rock for filling in a good number of the gaps here.)
As has already transpired in the case of Sue-Ellen Carroll in Cork City North East and Gillian McGrath in Ratoath, there is a strong likelihood that most of these Local Area Representatives will be candidates in next May’s local elections.
